For the girls in the Girlfriends program at Sandy Lane Elementary, the day in a beauty school at the Sunstate Academy may have been a fun reward at the end of their semester. But for their teachers and mentors who were looking on, the after-school event was a feel-good teaching moment in self-esteem, its momentum hopefully to stay with them for years to come.
