The third annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon was staged on July 12, 2009, at Sand Key Park in Clearwater. The event took participants through communities in Clearwater and Belleair. The triathlon began with a 1/3-mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico, then through a 13-mile cycling course over the Memorial Causeway into Clearwater. The final leg consisted of a 3.1 mile run in Sand Key Park.
