Sunshine Skyway DisasterSunday marks the 30th anniversary of the disastrous collapse of the Sunshine Skyway bridge in 1980. The Skyway came tumbling down when the 606-foot freighter Summit Venture rammed into a pier on May 9, 1980. Vehicles, including a Greyhound bus heading for Miami, plunged into the water, leaving 35 dead. Hear the "Mayday" emergency distress calls from several witnesses to the U.S. Coast Guard.
