Dozens of pelicans affected by the BP oil disaster were released at Fort De Soto Park by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The birds, which are from an area around Houma, Louisiana, were rehabilitated at a facility at Fort Jackson, in Louisiana, after being soaked in oil. They were picked up about two weeks ago. Most of the birds flew away as soon as they were released, though a few hung around before they, too, flew away.
