Path to Buddhism
|
Sandra Steers, 68, a divorced grandmother who was brought up by a very religious Methodist mother, now wears the robes of a novice Buddhist nun. Steers, who was ordained in a colorful ceremony at the Dhamma Wheel in Clearwater on Dec. 4, said though she had been studying Buddhism for a number of years, the inspiration for taking her vows was a recent pilgrimage to South Asia, where the Buddha once walked. Now known as Aya Suseela, she still lives at home in St. Petersburg, will play a more important role in her Clearwater center and one day may travel to Sri Lanka to take her final vows.
