American Victory Ship

|
The historic 1945 WWII ship, one of only 4 fully operational ships in the country, has been at Gulf Marine Repair's floating drydock, "Scotia". This $220,000 venture was successful thanks to the American Victory Ship's Dry Dock Committee spearheaded by Aaron Hendry, CEO of Gulf Marine Repair and Hendry Corp. The ship now boasts a new camouflage paint reflective of WWI and WWII ships of the past. The camouflage painting was used to confuse the enemy as to how big or how many ships there were when the ships were next to each other. Drydocking is a requirement of the U.S. Coast Guard in order for the vessel to return to its Relive History Cruises in 2012. Now that drydocking is complete, officials will announce a Relive History Cruise date shortly. The American Victory Ship Mariners Museum is open Sunday and Monday noon to 5pm and Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for veterans, $8 for seniors 65 or over, $8 for students with ID, and $5 for youths 12 and under.
