With Tropical Storm Isaac approaching Florida, storm surge effects may affect Tampa Bay

Though most forecasts now call for mostly wind and rain, there is still potential for flooding from a surge if Isaac were to trek closer to the west coast.

The animated graphic that is to the left was produced by the National Hurricane Center and illustrates a scenario where high winds from a category 4 storm (Isaac is predicted to be only a 2 when it passes our area) would move mass amounts of water into Tampa Bay, causing tremendous flooding, particularly in Hillsborough County. This animation is intended to show the potential for flooding and does not reflect any current forecasts for Isaac.
