Former Gaither High quarterback Alex McGough, a 9,000-yard passer at FIU, was drafted Saturday by the Seahawks with the second pick of the seventh round.

McGough became the third former Hillsborough County star to be drafted in a two-round span. Fellow bay area alumni Deon Cain (Tampa Bay Tech) and Ray-Ray McCloud (Sickles) were drafted by the Colts and Bills, respectively, in the span of three picks in the sixth round.

He's only the fourth player from a Hillsborough County high school to be drafted as a quarterback in the last 50 years, joining Robinson's John Reaves (1972), Leto's Gary Huff ('73), Chamberlain's Dean May ('84) and Plant's Aaron Murray (2014).

McGough completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,798 yards, 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a senior for FIU, which fell to Temple, 28-3, in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl in December.
