College football Week 3 viewing guide and other national nuggets

Viewing guide

Lamest time window: Late. The top night game might get out of hand, while some early kickoffs have upset potential.

Noon: Miami-Toledo, Florida State-Syracuse and Oklahoma-Iowa State are all good options. Whatever you do, avoid Kansas-Rutgers.

3:30: No. 17 Boise State at No. 24 Oklahoma State should be pointsy. No. 12 LSU at No. 7 Auburn probably won't be. Both should be fun.

8: No. 4 Ohio State gets its only real test without Urban Meyer, against No. 15 TCU in Arlington.

10: Utah is a tough place to play, so the visit from No. 10 Washington could make for fun #Pac12AfterDark action.

Eye on the NFL draft

If No. 1 Alabama has a weakness, it's an inexperienced secondary that includes St. Petersburg native Saivion Smith. That could mean a big day for Ole Miss' A.J. Brown, who can help solidify himself as the top receiver in the draft with a big showing.

GameDay breakdown

Ohio State hasn't needed suspended coach Urban Meyer in its first two games but might miss him tonight against TCU. Gary Patterson is one of the most respected coaches in the game, so expect him to throw some surprising looks interim coach Ryan Day hadn't seen on film. How Day adjusts will decide whether the Buckeyes remain undefeated.

Tigers vs Tigers

LSU is one of only five teams in the country that hasn't lost a turnover yet. But only six teams in the nation have more takeaways than Auburn (six). Whichever Tigers team continues its trend will likely leave Saturday as the No. 2 team in the SEC West.

Hurricane Florence

Some of the 10 games altered by the storm include:

Middle Tennessee State at No. 3 Georgia: Moved up to noon

Georgia Southern at No. 2 Clemson: Moved up to noon

Marshall at South Carolina: Canceled

No. 14 West Virginia at North Carolina State: Canceled

Southern Miss at Appalachian State: Postponed

East Carolina at No. 13 Virginia Tech: Canceled

Ohio at Virginia: Moved to Nashville for 4:30 kickoff

Audibles

"I'm not annoyed by it at all, to be honest with you. It would be crazy to not ask me about it because it's kind of unusual to have two guys that are playing and really playing well." — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney on handling questions about using two quarterbacks (Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence). Cc: Nick Saban

"I think these guys are ready to explode on somebody, and I hope it's not us." — Syracuse coach Dino Babers on FSU's offense

By the numbers

24 – Unofficial count of Division I-A games altered by hurricanes in the last three years

20 – Missed tackles for UF last week, leading to an extra 168 Kentucky yards

0 – Times before 2018 that UF, FSU and Miami all lost their first games against other I-A teams, according to SB Nation's Richard Johnson

17 – Career touchdown catches for Toledo WR Diontae Johnson (Lennard High), who will try to boost that total against No. 21 Miami

199 – Boise State wins since 2000, before today's top-25 matchup at Oklahoma State. That's the most in the country

899 – All-time wins for Texas, which can become the third program with 900 by beating USC tonight
