Lightning swap Matheiu Joseph and Jan Rutta

Tampa Bay recalls Mathieu Joseph and reassigns Jan Rutta to the AHL

The Lightning is back to its usual roster. Tampa Bay recalled Mathieu Joseph and reassigned Jan Rutta to Syracuse on Wednesday.

This move is a good sign for Victor Hedman’s return to the lineup. The team recalled Rutta to have an extra defenseman when Hedman injured and couldn’t play in Tuesday’s game. Joseph was reassigned on a paper transaction and never left the team.

Sending Rutta back means the Lightning is confident in Hedman’s return. It does not necessarily mean he plays Thursday, though. Last week, Erik Cernak still sat out one game after the team sent Rutta back to the AHL.
