DEVELOPING: Having won three straight before enjoying Wednesday’s off-day, the Rays are back in action today, hosting a Phillies split squad at 1:05 at the Charlotte Sports Park.

Reliever Emilio Pagan, the trade acquisition from Oakland who has had an impressive spring, will be on the mound for a start or, perhaps more relevant, an open. Also slated to pitch for the Rays are Diego Castillo, Colin Poche, Cole Sulser, Mike Franco, Ricardo Pinto. The Phillies, who had a night game in Tampa on Wednesday and a split squad in playing in Bradenton today, will start Drew Anderson, and are not likely to bring many name players, such as, say, Bryce Harper.

With opening day two weeks from today., manager Kevin Cash said the Rays will start locking in on a core group of players. Many of the regulars are expected to play today.

Wednesday wasn’t an off-day for everyone, as No. 3 starter Tyler Glasnow worked in a minor-league game against a Twins affiliate, working 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and two walks while striking out six, throwing 61 pitches, with 36 strikes. Top reliever Jose Alvarado also worked in a minor-league game but not faring as well, throwing 22 pitches (13 strikes) but couldn’t complete an inning, allowing two hits and a run with two strikeouts.
