Rays Wednesday: Off, but prospects are playing in St. Pete

Wander Franco, Matthew Liberatore, Shane Baz among those facing Canadian team.

The Rays have their last off-day of the spring today, with Ryne Stanek the only big-leaguer sceduled to work as he pitches in a minor-league game in Port Charlotte, pitching the second of his back-to-back games.

But several of the Rays top prospects, including infielder Wander Franco and pitchers Matthew Liberatore and Shane Baz, are slated to play against the Canadian Junior National U18 team as part of the St, Petersburg International Baseball Series at the Walter Fuller Complex (7901 30th Ave. N). Game time is 1:05, with tickets $10 and parking free.

Others on the Rays roster include pitcher Taj Bradley, infielder Gionti Turner, and outfielder Nick Schnell.

The big-league team will be back in action Thursday, with split squad games at home against the Braves at 1:05, and at the Red Sox in Fort Myers at 6:05. Brendan McKay, the two-way prospect who was their top 2017 draft pick, will be the starting pitcher against the Braves.
