ST. PETERSBURG — Rays right-hander Hunter Wood will receive his first opener assignment of the season tonight against the Orioles as the teams wrap up their three-game series tonight at the Trop.

Wood's previous two big league appearances this season have been in relief, but he made eight opener starts last season, posting a 4.15 ERA with 19 strikeouts and six walks over 13 innings.

Wood provides the ability to start off the game with a multiple-inning outings, something which could prove valuable with Friday's starting situation still unclear. That would be Blake Snell's spot, but he's on the IL.

No word on who will follow Wood. Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough is a possibility, but he’s been battling a stomach bug in recent days. Lefty Jalen Beeks could also provide some length after Wood.

Speaking of battling illness, Orioles first baseman Chris Davis is out of the lineup for the third straight game will a stomach bug.
