The Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony loses his balance after scoring two of his 23 points in a 100-83 win over the Spurs.

NEW YORK — Carmelo Anthony scored 23 and J.R. Smith 20 as the Knicks ended the Spurs' seven-game win streak 100-83 on Thursday.

Tim Duncan and Tony Parker each scored just 11 for San Antonio, which played its fourth game in five nights.

"It wasn't the first time. It's not going to be the last one," Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said of being tired. "But we've got to give them credit because they … made us really work."

Up 67-60, the Knicks opened the fourth with a 10-0 run. Up 18, Smith, a reserve who has scored at least 20 in five straight games, caught a lob from Pablo Prigioni around his waist while in the air and slammed it home.

"J.R. does some amazing things," New York center Tyson Chandler said. "He's a freak of nature."

Game highlights: J.J. Barea scored 12 of his 17 during the fourth, including a 3-pointer that made it a six-point game with 1:57 left, to help the visiting Timberwolves beat the Nuggets 101-97. But Minnesota lost star forward Kevin Love in the third to a sprained finger on his right hand. It was unclear how the injury occurred, and his status wasn't announced.

Spur leaves after waiter accident

NEW YORK — Spurs forward Stephen Jackson left in the first quarter after spraining his right ankle when he crashed into a waiter near New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

After taking a 3-pointer from the corner, Jackson stepped backward, out of bounds and onto the waiter as she was kneeling in front of courtside seats. It was unclear if she was serving Bloomberg.

Around the league: Commissioner David Stern said he believes there will be teams in Europe in 20 years. He said NBA-style arenas must be built but that might take a while because of the poor economy. … Denver guard Andre Miller, 36, scored his 15,000th point on a jumper against Minnesota. He is the eighth player with 15,000 points and 7,500 assists, joining: Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Gary Payton, Oscar Robertson, John Stockton and Isiah Thomas. … Wizards guard John Wall practiced for the first time since a stress injury was diagnosed in his left patella in September. There is no timetable for his return.
