HOUSTON — Erik Bedard pitched six effective innings, and the Astros scored four in the fourth inning to hand the Cardinals their fourth loss in five games. Three Houston relievers combined to pitch two hitless innings. Jose Veras then yielded a one-out single to Jon Jay and walked Matt Adams in the ninth, but pinch-hitter Daniel Descalso struck out and Matt Carpenter flied out to end the game.
