24 Hours of Daytona at a glance

. Fast facts

New era

This weekend's 24 Hours of Daytona at Daytona International Speedway is the first race in a new, united series.

What is it? The United SportsCar Championship is the result of a merger of the American Le Mans Series and the Grand-Am Series. Daytona was Grand-Am's biggest event; the premier ALMS event was the 12 Hours of Sebring (and those cars also could race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans). Now America's two top endurance events are under one umbrella.

What about the classes? There are four: Prototype, Prototype Challenge (a carryover from the top ALMS category), GT Le Mans and GT Daytona.

Schedule: Daytona is the first of 13 races, all in North America.

TV: Today — 2-4 p.m., Ch. 13; 4-9 p.m., Fox Sports 2. Sunday — 7 a.m.-3 p.m., Fox Sports 1.
