CHANDLER, Ariz. — Alexis DeJoria earned her first career Funny Car victory Sunday in the NHRA's Carquest Nationals, beating Robert Hight in the final.
DeJoria, the wife of TV personality Jesse James, had a run of 4.043 seconds at 309.63 mph in her Toyota. Hight's Ford lost traction.
DeJoria became the fourth female Funny Car winner and 14th woman to win in a major NHRA series.
"When we won the finals, I couldn't believe it," DeJoria said. "Actually, I can because I know we can do it, but it's such a shock at the same time."
Antron Brown won Top Fuel, beating Brittany Force in the final, and Allen Johnson topped V. Gaines in Pro Stock.
East Bay Raceway: Wayne Johnson won the Ronald Laney Memorial 360 Sprint main event late Saturday in Gibsonton.
