The big 'triple'

Kyle Busch is the first to contest races in all three major NASCAR series in one week, but John Andretti has already completed his own historic "triple" this season: becoming the first since 2004 to run the 24 Hours of Daytona, Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500. Although Andretti enjoys the freedom, he likely would surrender some of it for a contract that would ensure him work with one team in one series. He's running a limited schedule for Roth Racing in the Indy Racing League. "I'd like to do the Brickyard 400," Andretti said. "I know that that is extremely tough because teams don't normally run extra cars there. It is more a three-day weekend for the Cup teams. It definitely is not just another race on the schedule — they are moving from point A to point B to point C pretty regular. Still, that is one that is on my radar."

Family tradition

The Andrettis just keep turning laps. Marco Andretti and uncle John will make the 1,001st and 1,002nd open-wheel starts in their family's storied history in tonight's IRL race at Texas Motor Speedway. The breakdown going into tonight:

Driver starts breakdown

Mario 536 408 CART/USAC; 128 Formula 1

Michael 330 317 IndyCar/CART; 13 Formula 1

John 76 73 CART; 3 IndyCar

Marco 37 all Indy Racing League

Jeff 21 all CART
