Rain pushes Sprint Cup race at Charlotte back to Sunday

CONCORD, N.C. — The opening race of the second round of NASCAR's playoffs was washed out by persistent rain Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Bank of America 500 was rescheduled for today (12:30 p.m., NBCSN). It's just NASCAR's second rainout of the season, though several events this year were delayed because of weather.

Joe Gibbs Racing heads in trying to reclaim some of the momentum seized by reigning Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick, who won last week at Dover to keep his title defense intact. JGR drivers Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth won the first two races in the opening round of the Chase for the Championship.

Formula One: Mercedes' Nico Rosberg took the pole for today's Russian Grand Prix in Sochi ahead of his teammate and points leader Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg's time of 1 minute, 37.113 seconds midway through the final qualifying session was 0.32 seconds faster than Hamilton.
