FSU loses lead, falls in College World Series opener

OMAHA, Neb. — LSU took its first lead of the game with two runs in the eighth and defeated Florida State 5-4 Saturday night in a College World Series opener.

With runners on first and second, Dylan Busby took a third strike to end it. Busby, who was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, hit a two-run homer in the first inning.

LSU's Cole Freeman scored the tying run on a play that included three errors — two by rightfielder Steven Wells and one by catcher Cal Raleigh — and Greg Deichmann followed with a run-scoring single with one out.

Starter Tyler Holton took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) in 71/3 innings.

The Seminoles (45-22) face Cal State Fullerton in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Monday.

Before the game, LSU named Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise an honorary coach, and he will be given the game ball from the opener. Scalise, an LSU alumnus, was wounded in a shooting Wednesday.

0REGON STATE RALLIES: Adley Rutschman had a tiebreaking single in the eighth, Jake Mulholland pitched 41/3 innings of no-hit relief and Oregon State rallied past Cal State Fullerton 6-5. The Beavers (55-4) won their 22nd straight game after trailing by four runs.
