NCAA Gainesville Super Region baseball: Florida vs. Florida State

Published June 5, 2015

Baseball Super Region: Florida State at Florida

When/where: 7:30 tonight (ESPN2), 5 Saturday (ESPN2), 6 Sunday, if necessary, (ESPNU) or 7 (ESPN2); McKethan Stadium, Gainesville

Records: FSU 44-19, Florida 47-16

At stake: The winner of the best-of-three series advances to the College World Series.

Of note: This is the first meeting in the NCAA Super Region between these fierce rivals since 2005. The Gators are making their seventh Super Region appearance, fifth under Kevin O'Sullivan, and first since 2012. In a meeting of sophomore right-handers in tonight's opener of the best-of-three series, Gators pitcher Logan Shore (8-6, 2.64) faces the Seminoles' Boomer Biegalski (7-4, 2.80). Florida had won five consecutive over FSU before the Seminoles won back-to-back games during the regular season in March and April. "It's going to be awesome," Gators shortstop and Bloomingdale High alumnus Richie Martin said. "I know a few kids on the Florida State team. Yeah, there's a rivalry between us, but if we play our game, I think we'll be fine. The bottom line is you have to win, so it doesn't matter who we're playing. Florida State or USF or College of Charleston, it doesn't matter, we've just got to win."
