TAMPA — The wife of retired baseball star Roberto Alomar said in court Friday that she still wants to proceed in her effort to obtain a permanent domestic violence injunction against him.
But attorneys said they will try to resolve the couple's problems before an Aug. 20 hearing.
Maria Del Pilar Alomar, 33, said in a court filing that her husband threatened her with a knife in their Avila home in the spring. She also described a run-in from June.
A temporary restraining order remains in place until the next hearing. Attorneys agreed that the wife will stay in the home and must not destroy anything.
A representative for Roberto Alomar will be allowed this morning to pick up a Rolls-Royce and Ferrari, along with clothes and personal items.
During the hearing, which drew a throng of Spanish-language media reporters from around the state, Roberto Alomar, 42, denied his wife's allegations. "It is not true," he said through an interpreter.
He filed for divorce Thursday, court records show.
Alomar was a 12-time All-Star during his 16-year major-league career. He went to spring training with the Rays in 2005 but retired before the season started. He made headlines in late 1996 when he spit in an umpire's face after being called out on strikes.
