With Philadelphia and New York 108 miles apart and the New Jersey Turnpike between them, here's an offbeat look:
Oh baby …
Last week, the New York Post photo-shoppers put Phillies CF Shane Victorino in a cheerleaders skirt with a headline about the "Frillies." Wednesday, playing off the Who's Your Daddy theme, they put pitcher Pedro Martinez's head on a baby's body on the front page (rather than Mayor Michael Bloomberg being re-elected) with the headline SPANK HIM, YANKS and on a two-page pullout poster.
Pricey proposition
Online ticket brokers reported considerably greater demand and higher prices for Game 6, with StubHub officials deeming it their highest-grossing event ever, with an average sale price in excess of $1,000. There were several eye-popping listings Wednesday afternoon, including two Legends Level seats in the second row behind home plate for $27,500 each. A better deal than the pair of eighth-row seats behind the Phillies dugout going for $24,000 apiece. The highest price actually paid, as of midday, was $10,100 each for two seats near the Yankees dugout. The cheapest seat listed as of 5 p.m.? Upper deck grandstand for a mere $499 and partially obstructed view bleacher seats for $510.
The other Posada
While Yankees C Jorge Posada is playing, his wife is working hard. Laura is a former model, actor, attorney, mother of two, star of E! True Hollywood Story: Baseball Wives and co-author of a recently released family fitness guide, Fit Home Team. So when she went to the DEX New York Beauty Atrium and Studio to prep for an Athlete's Quarterly magazine photo shoot, the PR machine was whirling, sending out photos and details such as her fave makeup (Luminescent Powder in Sun) and details of her hair styling.
Faces in the crowd
Mary J. Blige sang the anthem. … Entourage star Jeremy Piven and Bears LB Brian Urlacher were among the celebs on the field pregame. … Yankees Series star Scott Brosius threw out the ceremonial first pitch. … Broadway actor Kelli O'Hara performed God Bless America. … Other celebs included Paul Simon, Jimmy Fallon, Spike Lee, Kurt Russell and, of course, Kate Hudson.
