DETROIT — Andy Sonnanstine will take Scott Kazmir's rotation spot and face the Red Sox on Tuesday at Tropicana Field.
But that's just for starters.
Both Sonnanstine and top prospect Wade Davis figure to be used the next turn through the rotation as the Rays have a Sept. 7 doubleheader at New York. After that, a decision will be made between the two.
Davis could make his major-league debut in a more comfortable setting at home Sept. 6 against the Tigers, and Sonnanstine and Matt Garza could be used at Yankee Stadium.
Manager Joe Maddon noted that Sonnanstine has improved at Triple-A Durham, where he was 5-3, 4.40. Before being demoted in late June, he was 6-7, 6.61 for the Rays.
