at Mariners

Today-Sunday

What's new: The Mariners (56-52) are fading in the West. Before taking two of three from the lowly Royals, they lost seven of 10 and have fallen nine games behind the Angels. They traded ace Jarrod Washburn to the Tigers, and Erik Bedard is on the DL again. They still have one of the best young pitchers in Felix Hernandez, whom the Rays face tonight, and Ichiro Suzuki, the AL leader in hits and batting average.

Key stat: The Mariners' 425 runs are 27th in the majors.

Connections: Rays special assistant scout John McLaren is a former Mariners manager.

Series history: The Mariners took two of three earlier this season in Seattle and lead the series 60-41 overall, 31-24 in Seattle.
