Orioles

Today through Sunday

What's new: The last-place Orioles (63-70) are coming off a 2-7 homestand, and now face three games apiece with the Rays and Red Sox. They've had to play without All-Star closer George Sherrill and CF Adam Jones, both on the disabled list and likely to miss this series. C Ramon Hernandez, who recently ended a career-best 15-game hitting streak, and OF Nick Markakis (hit in 26 of past 32 games) have had hot bats. The Orioles are fifth in the majors in runs (682) but also have the third-worst ERA (4.86).

Key stat: The Orioles have given up a run in the first inning 60 times this season — they are 23-37 in those games — including 12 of their past 17 games.

Connections: Orioles DH Aubrey Huff is an ex-Ray; Rays RHP Chad Bradford is a former Oriole.

Series history: The Rays are 8-3 this season, 5-1 at the Trop; The Orioles lead all time 96-83, but the Rays are 47-44 at the Trop.

Indeed - we are missing Longo, CC, Navi, JB and Percy. We have to stay focused on doing the little things (great D, pitching and timely hitting). Go Rays!

And all of that means nothing. We still have to play the games and they are the toughest team we are going to face in the next three days.
