Three plays worth noting

Not hit deep enough

Akinori Iwamura was on third and Carlos Pena on first with one out in the first when Evan Longoria lifted a fly ball to right. Jermaine Dye hustled in to catch it, and it was not deep enough for Iwamura to tag up. The inning ended when Carl Crawford hit a comebacker. "I don't know if it was the first-inning jitters," Crawford said. "But we missed out on some opportunities right there that we could have really cashed in and put them down."

Adventures in baserunning

A.J. Pierzynski's two-out single scored Dewayne Wise to tie it at 1 in the third. But what came before that was key. After walking, Wise avoided being doubled up on Juan Uribe's liner to first with a great dive. Then he stole second and scored easily on the single.

Still 1-1 in the fourth, the White Sox loaded the bases with no outs, and Alexei Ramirez sent a fly ball to center. Jim Thome easily scored, and as Paul Konerko broke for third, the no-longer fleet Ken Griffey broke for second. SS Jason Bartlett cut off B.J. Upton's throw but got it to second too late to get Griffey. Griffey might not have scored on Dewayne Wise's ensuing double and might have been stranded after Juan Uribe's strikeout and Orlando Cabrera's groundout.
