ST. PETERSBURG — The stunning run to the World Series benefited the entire Rays organization. For the players, coaches, manager Joe Maddon and some staff members, that reward included a $223,390.05 bonus.

That was the amount of a full postseason share — though considerably less than the Phillies players got ($351,504.48) for winning the Series.

The amount of bonus money for each team (the eight in the playoffs plus four others) is determined by the gate receipts from the postseason and split up based on a vote of the players that was held the final week of the season.

The Rays divided their $12.3-million into 43 full shares (to players, coaches and some staff members), 10.645 partial shares (to players with the team for less than the full season) and 27 cash awards (mostly to other staff members).

For a player making at or near the major-league minimum salary, such as Andy Sonnanstine ($395,800) and J.P. Howell ($397,400) and a dozen others, the postseason money, though taxed, is a significant bonus.

Did Brian Anderson receive a full share. Do you know if he will be returning as an advisor next season?

Guess the players aren't complaining about attendance now.

Joe - all shares distributions are confidential. Only the players who vote know who gets what. Those figures won't be released to the public.

maybe the higher paid players could divert the money to the lower paid players because the diffference is in many millions of dollars.
