ORLANDO — Free-agent 1B Carlos Peña was on Sirius XM's MLB Network Radio on Tuesday talking a lot about how much playing for the Rays meant to him, but sounding like someone looking for a new team.

Peña said he didn't know if he was in the Rays' plans, and his chance to return was "more on their end, kind of like the ball is in their court." He also said the Rays were "so very special in my heart obviously, however, I understand that sometimes (the future) may not be the way I want it to be, and I just must adjust. And I'm actually excited about the new possibilities out there for me."

Peña made a team-high $10.25 million last season while hitting .196 with 28 homers.

Rays exec VP Andrew Friedman cited team policy of not talking about such personnel issues, but said, "I think it's well-documented how we feel about Carlos as a person and a player. We'll see how everything unfolds."

BRAVES GET UGGLA: The Braves found the right-handed power bat they'd been seeking, acquiring slugging 2B Dan Uggla from the Marlins for utility man Omar Infante and LH reliever Mike Dunn. "We've been looking for a right-handed presence in our lineup, someone that's a legitimate 30-plus home run guy and I think Dan gives us that," GM Frank Wren said. The Braves could move Martin Prado to leftfield.

SERVICE PLANNED: Mets GM Sandy Alderson said a memorial service for his father, John, who was killed while crossing a street in St. Petersburg on Sunday, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N, St. Petersburg.

MISCELLANY: The Cardinals and Giants could be interesting matches if the Rays decide to trade Jason Bartlett and turn shortstop over to Reid Brignac. … GMs spent much of Tuesday talking about issues that will be part of upcoming labor negotiations — expanded playoffs (more likely for 2012) and changes to the draft. … The Marlins are close to signing free-agent C John Buck, with the AP reporting a three-year, $18 million deal. … RHP Jake Westbrook stayed with the Cardinals for a two-year, $16.5 million deal. … The Mets reportedly cut the field for their manager's job to Terry Collins, Bob Melvin, Chip Hale and Wally Backman.
