Marc Topkin's takeaways from Tuesday's Rays-Angels game

RHP Alex Cobb made mistakes on back-to-back pitches to the first two Angels hitters Tuesday, allowing homers to Cameron Maybin and Mike Trout, but otherwise gave the Rays another solid outing, working into the eighth and scattering seven hits.

Slumping RF Steven Souza Jr. was back in the lineup as expected, though dropped to seventh. The spotlight still found him as he came up in a key situation, bases loaded with one out in the seventh, and struck out, extending his weeks-long skid to 8-for-67.

There were decent crowds for the Yankees over the weekend, but the opportunity to see the game's best player, Mike Trout, and future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols didn't resonate with area fans as Tuesday's 9,014 was the smallest crowd at the Trop since May 2015.
