Marc Topkin's takeaways from Wednesday's Rays-Indians game

Through RHP Alex Cobb's first five starts there were questions of how much he was going to be able to contribute. But Cobb has turned it around by turning into an effective fastball-curveball pitcher and turning up his competitiveness to where he battles to give the Rays a chance every start.

The Rays are saying SS Matt Duffy's latest heel setback isn't a big deal, but of some comfort if it turns out not to be true is the increasingly impressive performance of Tim Beckham. There's still some inconsistency, especially on defense, but he's hitting .279 with seven homers and 23 RBIs, which is pretty good.

Rookie INF Daniel Robertson continues to prove a capable fill-in, if not intriguing alternative, at short and second with his slick glove. For the second straight day he made a stellar play at second, diving to his left to snare a line drive, earning raves from the coaches.
