Rays SS Tim Beckham, the 2008 top overall pick, said he received a lot of congratulatory calls and text messages after he singled Thursday in his first big-league at-bat. Beckham became the first position player picked No. 1 overall to get a hit in his first at-bat since Phil Nevin in 1995. "It felt great," said Beckham, who is keeping the ball and lineup card.
Orioles INF Dan Johnson, who hit two of the biggest homers in Rays history, said it was cool to return to the Trop for the first time since 2011, and he's excited to be in another playoff race. "Got to write a new chapter," he said. Many fans remember the old chapter, with one holding a sign that read "Dan Johnson, We Need U!" over a photo of Johnson's homer in Game 162.
