Martinez optimistic after Cubs interview
Rays bench coach Dave Martinez returned home from his interview with Cubs officials enthusiastic about his chances to be hired as their next manager.
"I thought it went well," he said Saturday. "I thought it went really well."
Martinez talked extensively with top team officials, including going over potential moves after watching video clips, and also met briefly with team chairman Tom Ricketts.
Martinez said he was now waiting for word on the next step in the process: "They said they'd get back to me soon."
The Cubs have interviewed Padres bench coach Rick Renteria, former Indians and Nationals manager Manny Acta and former Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch, and there are reports of interest in Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo and Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux.
