A snake surprise
CF Desmond Jennings was stunned Sunday to see a snake in the back yard of his St. Petersburg home. After requesting help via Twitter, he called animal control and has been staying at his Port Charlotte place since. "I'd (deal) with a gator before a snake," he said.
Good luck charm?
Brandon Guyer's wife Lindsay Murphy, a sports anchor in Washington, D.C., will be in Port Charlotte for a last-minute, long-weekend trip. Guyer, competing for the fifth outfielder's spot, hopes she brings some luck. "I said, 'Don't come down unless you pack some (homers),' " Guyer joked. "She's pretty good at that."
Hall of Famer Cal Ripken will be at today's Rays-Pirates game to sign his new book, Squeeze Play, a middle-grade novel, beginning shortly after gates open at 11 a.m.
