Growin' up with Springsteen
Rays manager Joe Maddon is a major Bruce Springsteen fan, but he wasn't caught up in the buzz over Monday's 39th anniversary of the release of the Born to Run album as his allegiance goes two years further back. "Everybody talks about Born to Run, but for me, he had me with Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle," Maddon said. "I always look at a real artist's earliest work as being his heart and soul. Whether it's an author, writer, artist, musician, I want to see what they did in the beginning because that really speaks to the pain that they got getting there."
Quote of the day
"My two-strike approach is not getting to two-strikes."
OF Wil Myers, discussing how to avoid piling up more strikeouts.
