Rays: Miami product loses bet, wears FSU gear

Trading colors

C Eddy Rodriguez is a proud University of Miami product, so it was with great pain that he wore a Florida State shirt for drills Monday after losing a bet to 3B coach Tom Foley on the weekend UM-FSU series.

Quote of the day

"He makes the field look small. This guy is really strong."

Manager Joe Maddon, right, on non-roster OF Jeremy Moore, who doubled and homered.

Hobnobbing

Manager Joe Maddon raved about attending Saturday's DeBartolo Family Foundation All-Star Charity Gala in Tampa. He met, among others, 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, new Bucs coach Lovie Smith and GM Jason Licht (whose wife and father-in-law attended Maddon's Lafayette College) and former Buc Warrick Dunn. Maddon talked football and baseball with Kaepernick — who was drafted by the Cubs as a pitcher — and invited him to hang out at a game.

Who is this Ray?

Has been traded in deals for pitchers Zack Greinke and James Shields. Was 14-0, 0.10 as a high school senior, named Illinois player of the year.
