Rays' Price hopes to get revenge on Rangers

TORONTO — David Price doesn't do well against the Rangers, especially in big games. He has beaten them only once in 11 tries, including losses in all three of his career postseason starts.

But the Rays' lefty ace is confident as he takes the mound tonight in the one-game tiebreaker that determines which team advances to Wednesday's wild-card game.

"This is the moment that I want to be in. I want to be able to relish this moment and go out there and have fun," Price said. "It's a situation I dreamed of as a little kid. It might not be a play-in game to get to the postseason but it's usually bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two outs, something like that.

"I always envision myself being in that big moment and (tonight) it'll be the biggest game of the year for us, biggest game of the year for Texas as well."

Price, 1-7, 5.57 against the Rangers, is aware of the challenges of a lineup that has roughed him up more than any other American League squad, with a .274 regular-season average and .778 on-base plus slugging percentage.

"They all put together extremely tough at-bats," he said, wearing his lucky green Keep Calm and Chive On T-shirt. "They're going to make me throw strikes. They don't expand a whole lot. It's a tough lineup, it really is."

A win tonight could make up for some of the disappointment from Price's injury-interrupted follow-up to his Cy Young season. And his teammates are confident about having him on the mound, manager Joe Maddon noting how Price "was be-bopping around all day (Sunday)."

"You can't not feel good about it," third baseman Evan Longoria said. "He's the guy that I think everybody in this room looks to when we need somebody to go out and give us a great performance.

"I know he couldn't be more excited, he couldn't be happier to be given the opportunity to be on the mound (tonight). And he, above all people, probably feels like he has something to prove against those guys."
