What's new: The rebuilding Twins (9-9) are off to a solid start. They bolstered their rotation in the offseason, adding RHPs Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco. Former MVP C Joe Mauer has transitioned to first base, with veteran Kurt Suzuki now behind the plate.

Key stat: The Twins lead the majors with 96 walks and are third in runs (98).

Connections: RHP Grant Balfour is a former Twin; OF Sam Fuld, recently claimed off waivers, was a Ray from 2011-13. Injured Twins INF Jason Bartlett, an ex-Ray, is reportedly planning to retire.

Series history: The Rays lead 62-61, 33-26 at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay won six of seven last year.
