Rays-White Sox preview

at White Sox

What's new: The Sox have been struggling, their 4-10 skid the product of a lack of offense as much as anything as they started the day last in the league in runs and on-base percentage and 12th in hitting. Losing C A.J. Pierzynski is part of it; so is Adam Dunn's slow start. The pitching, though, has been very good, especially a bullpen that has allowed the lowest average in the league. They have five players on the DL.

Key stat: Eighteen of the Sox's first 20 games have been decided by three runs or fewer.

Connections: White Sox INF Jeff Keppinger was a 2012 Ray, bullpen coach Bobby Thigpen is a longtime St. Pete resident. Rays bench coach Dave Martinez and radio man Dave Wills used to be with the Sox.

Series history: White Sox lead 67-49 overall, 33-22 at the Cell.
