. It's gotta be the shoes

Since Rays INF/OF Ben Zobrist didn't get to play in Tuesday's All-Star Game, he didn't get much of a chance to show off the special All-Star-edition cleats that New Balance made for him. They are bright white with the Mets/All-Star colors, and the New York City skyline on the heel. "No, I wouldn't normally pick these," Zobrist said. "But for just one special day, the All-Star Game, they're cool."

It's gotta be the hair

Since DH Luke Scott started sporting his "traditional '80s rat tail" he has been on quite a roll, putting together a 10-game hitting streak, one shy of his career best. During the streak, he is hitting .417 with a 1.317 on-base-plus-slugging percentage.

Numbers of the day

16-1 Odds of Rays winning the World Series, per, the 10th-best choice.

72.4 Percent chance of Rays making the postseason, per, based on computer simulations.

  3. Bucs running back's gamble pays off for his mom

TAMPA — When Peyton Barber decided to leave Auburn after his sophomore year, with only one season as a starting running back, it was a risky decision, one he hoped would let him help out his family back home in suburban Atlanta.
