Roger Mooney's takeaways from Wednesday's Rays-Marlins game

LHP Blake Snell looked like he was about to take a step forward early Wednesday, but ultimately did not. He struck out a season-high nine, but could only go five innings because of his pitch count and was in jams during each of his last three innings. You have wonder if the Rays are running out of patience. Rookie INF Daniel Robertson has had a few big moments this season, and one came in the fourth inning. After the Marlins trimmed the Rays lead to one, Robertson drilled his second home run of the year over the centerfield wall to give Snell some breathing room. A timely home run at the time. Sometimes it only takes one hit to lift a batter out of a slump. Might that have been the case in the second when Kevin Kiermaier, hitless in his previous 19 at-bats, singled to drive in two runs? Time will tell. That he drew walks in each of his two previous games could mean he's seeing the ball better.
