Roger Mooney's takeaways from Wednesday's Rays-Orioles game

It is going to get interesting tonight when the Rays begin a four-game series against the Yankees in New York. The Rays feel they are good enough to win the East Division. These next four games and the four that follow in Houston will be a good measuring stick.

3B Evan Longoria is beginning to become a factor in the offense, which is important especially with 1B Logan Morrison and LF Corey Dickerson struggling at the plate. Manager Kevin Cash said not to bet against Longoria having a big finish. The Rays will need that if they want to play in October.

It makes sense that RHP Jake Odorizzi has been pitching this season at less than 100 percent. That he's on the 10-day disabled list with only a lower-back strain is good news. Much better than an arm or shoulder injury. To make a postseason run, the Rays need the old Odorizzi.
