Payoff of the day

Ben Zobrist is among the most humble and least materialistic big-leaguers around, so Matt Garza doesn't have to worry about coming up with much of a thank-you gift for the no-hitter-saving catch he made in rightfield on Monday. "Maybe a smoothie," Zobrist said. "Tropical Smoothie Café, strawberry kiwi."

Number of the day

21 Consecutive scoreless innings by Rays pitchers — from the third Sunday through the fifth Tuesday — one shy of the team record, set in 2002.

Quote of the day

"He might — he's got that weirdness about him. He's kinda like me."

Manager Joe Maddon, on the likelihood of RHP Matt Garza deciphering the handwritten notes on his scorecard from Monday's no-hitter.
