SPRING HILL — In a repeat result of last year's Class 6A region quarterfinal, Springstead's season was ended by Belleview with the Eagles unable to get anything going at the plate.

Springstead was shut out 2-0 by the Tigers on Tuesday night as Belleview hurlers Gage Warden and Garrett Davis combined on a two-hitter.

"They were locating the ball well, and we just couldn't get the job done offensively," Springstead coach Shawn Laferty said. "These guys have nothing to hang their head about. They set a lot of records this season."

Headlining the action for Springstead (24-4) was the sixth-inning ejection of Johnny Oliveira (0-for-3). The team's leading hitter was legging out a groundball and called out by the first-base umpire. With tensions high, the umpire overheard some words as Oliveira walked away and immediately tossed him.

Warden (4 1/3 IP, 2 H, 5 K, 3 BB) picked up the win after throwing 83 pitches, while Davis (2 2/3 IP, 0 H, 6 K) capped off the save. Springstead starter Jack Jasiak (4 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 4 K) also threw well, but the one unearned run surrendered in the fourth proved to be enough for the Tigers (21-5).

"We had a couple mistakes," Laferty said. "You have to make plays at this point, and we didn't do that (Tuesday night)."

The lone hits from the Springstead lineup were singles by seniors Dakota Blevens (1-for-3) and Joey DelGatto (1-for-3) in their final prep game.
