College basketball preview: Florida Gators vs. Florida Atlantic

TONIGHT

No. 16 Florida vs. Florida Atlantic

When/where: 7; Stephen C. O'Connell Center, Gainesville

TV/radio: Sun Sports; 620-AM

Records: FAU 3-2, Florida 3-1

Notable: The Gators take the floor no longer ranked among the nation's top 10, having fallen seven spots after last week's loss to Ohio State and struggling in the second half against Morehead State on Sunday. … Senior C Vernon Macklin, who is averaging 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds, may be shut down for a couple of weeks to let tendinitis and bone spurs in his right knee heal. … FAU returns nine of its top 10 players from last season, including Sun Belt defensive player of the year Brett Royster, the team's career leader in blocks. … Florida coach Billy Donovan expects a deeper, more conventional-style team than the Gators' most recent opponent. "It's a team that is certainly a lot deeper than (Morehead State) on the perimeter," Donovan said. "They are going to play five guards, they are a good shooting team, they've got speed and quickness."

ST. PETERSBURG — Chaim Bloom said the Rays weren't necessarily in the market for a shortstop. The team has a number of those. But when the Marlins recently began shopping Adeiny Hechavarria, well, that was too much to pass up.

Adeiny Hechavarria has emerged as one of baseball’s top defensive shortstops in the past three seasons with the Marlins.
