College basketball preview: Florida Gators vs. Kansas State Wildcats, 8 p.m. Saturday

No. 8 Florida vs. Kansas State

When/where: 8 tonight; Sprint Center, Kansas City, Mo.

TV/radio: ESPN2; 620-AM

Records: Florida 8-1, Kansas State 8-2

Notable: One week after traveling across country to play Arizona, Florida embarks on another road trip. This is deemed a neutral-site contest but clearly is like a home game for the Wildcats, which is the way UF coach Billy Donovan approaches it. K-State is in its first season under coach Bruce Weber, with its only losses to two ranked teams, Michigan and Gonzaga. UF tops the nation in scoring defense (49.6 ppg) but faces a formidable offensive threat in G and leading scorer Rodney McGruder (13.7 ppg). "McGruder may be the best player individually that we've played against this year," Donovan said. "A preseason player of the year candidate, he's played a lot of games from Day 1. … They run a lot of different screening action for him. … We can't play for 38½ minutes, we have to play for 40."

Marc Topkin’s takeaways from Sunday’s Rays-Yankees game

The Rays remain committed to using an "opener" three times in five game stretches, but that seems to tax the bullpen too much. Wilmer Font showed Sunday that he should be able to handle starting, at least until Chris Archer returns.e_SClBIt was only ...

Captain’s Corner: Trout bite at its best

The trout bite has been the best I’ve seen all year. Fish up to 26 inches have been common recently. Fish are sitting on the flats’ deeper edges, where the water is deeper and cooler, and moves a little more swiftly. Live sardines and hard plastic ba...
