College basketball preview: South Florida Bulls women at DePaul

Tonight: USF women at DePaul

When/where: 8; McGrath Arena, Chicago

Radio: 1010-AM

Records: USF 18-9, 5-8 Big East; DePaul 20-7, 8-5

Notable: A loss at West Virginia on Saturday hurt USF's hopes of making the NCAA Tournament, so a win in Chicago, where DePaul is 12-1, would help get the Bulls back on the bubble. … DePaul hit 14 3-pointers in its win against Syracuse, with 11 coming from guards Deirdre Naughton and Sam Quigley. USF has the Big East's second-worst 3-point defense, so that could spell trouble. The Bulls are the league's worst 3-point shooting team, hitting just 26 percent, and yet only one team has taken more shots beyond the arc. … Senior guard Shantia Grace's scoring has dropped off enough that she's barely USF's leading scorer in Big East play, with just three more total points than senior center Jessica Lawson, who continues to play well. … Four of DePaul's losses are to Connecticut, Louisville and Notre Dame (twice), so this one won't come easy for the Bulls, who have won three of their past four road games.

TAMPA — As the Bucs seek their first 10-sack season from a player since Simeon Rice in 2005, who better to help that cause than Rice himself?

  2. Bucs' annual Women of RED preseason party attracts nearly 2,000

TAMPA — Theresa Jones is primarily a college football fan, but she wanted to get a taste of the Bucs. So the 46-year-old Tampa resident bought a ticket for the team's Women of RED Ultimate Football Party at Raymond James Stadium on Friday.

  4. Bucs' Ali Marpet: Move to center could pay off big

TAMPA — No player works as closely with Jameis Winston as the center. Only those two touch the ball on every play. Together they make — if you will — snap judgements about defensive alignments.

The numbers tell the story of the Rays inexplicable ongoing offensive slump, and the words detail how tough it has been to deal with.
