Records: Georgia Southern 2-1, USF 1-2

Notable: The Bulls hope to bounce back after Thursday's loss at UCF and should be able to against a Georgia Southern team that lost by 37 at Notre Dame in its opener. The Eagles' wins are against Division II and NAIA schools, but they've scored plenty, with three players averaging at least 16, including freshman Gs Eric Ferguson (18.7 ppg) and Jelani Hewitt (16). … USF's top scorer is junior Ron Anderson, who has averaged 13 points off the bench and is making a case to supplant senior center Jarrid Famous in the lineup. The Bulls are also getting 12 ppg from sophomore GJawanza Poland, . … Sophomore F Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, a King graduate, signed with Georgia Southern out of high school but was granted a release after a coaching change.

    INF Trevor Plouffe didn't do much with the opportunity the Rays gave him, and time ran out Tuesday when he was designated for assignment after the game.

    Plouffe hit just .178, with one homer and two RBIs, in 31 games for the Rays, his primary playing time from starting at first or third against lefties.
