College basketball preview: USF Bulls vs. Virginia Commonwealth

TONIGHT

USF vs. VCU

When/where: 7; Sun Dome, Tampa

TV/radio: BHSN; 1250-AM

Records: VCU 4-1; USF 4-3

Notable: VCU has already beaten Wake Forest and UCLA and played Tennessee close, so it's another tough nonconference challenge for the Bulls, who beat Texas Tech on Saturday after losing in double overtime to BYU. … VCU has four players scoring at least 14.8 per game, led by guard Brandon Rozzell (16) and former Wake Forest forward Jamie Skeen (15 ppg, 8.6 rebounds). … USF hasn't scored a ton of points, with forward Augustus Gilchrist, right, leading the way with 11.3, just ahead of promising sophomore guard Jawanza Poland (11). The emergence of junior Ron Anderson (10.1 ppg,, 7.4 rpg) has resulted in less production from senior center Jarrid Famous, who averaged 10.4 points and 7.5 rebounds last season but is now at 7.3 and 4.7. … VCU has a local in senior guard Ed Nixon of Lakewood, who is averaging 6.6 points per game.
