College basketball preview: USF vs. SMU

. Tonight

When/where: 7, Sun Dome

TV/radio: ESPNews, 98.7-FM, 1010-AM

Records: SMU 16-4, 5-2 American Athletic Conference, USF 10-10, 1-6

Notable: The Mustangs' 71-54 embarrassment of USF 13 days ago began a five-game win streak that is still intact. Bulls coach Stan Heath said his team missed at least a half-dozen shots in the paint early in that contest, when SMU built a 13-0 lead. Bulls senior Victor Rudd, benched for most of the second half of Sunday's 80-58 loss at Memphis for what Heath called a "loss of focus," is expected to start. Rudd needs 10 points to become the 18th player to score 1,000 as a Bull. Look for SMU, the second-best defensive team in the conference (60.3 ppg), to try to harass USF's inexperienced backcourt. USF's 13.5 turnovers per game are tied for most in the league.
